ePRINTit FAQ and Troubleshooting

This article collects the most common ePRINTit questions and problems for students and guests: supported files, accounts and refunds, and what to do when a print job fails.

Files and formats

What file types can I print?

.bmp, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .tif, .tiff, .doc, .docx, .txt, .rtf, .htm, .html, .xls, .xlsx, .ppt, .pptx, .pdf, and .xps.

My file is in another format (like Photoshop PSD)

Use Save As or Export in the original program to save a copy in a supported format — PDF works for almost everything.

Are there file name rules?

These characters aren't allowed in file names: " ' * / \ : ? < > | & # % [ ] ( ) + ~ $. On a Mac they're replaced with underscores automatically, and extra periods are replaced with an X (name.name.doc becomes namexname.doc).

Can I print a password-protected document?

No — ePRINTit can't open a document it doesn't have the password for. On your own device, print or save the document as an unprotected PDF first, then upload that copy. If the author locked the document against printing entirely, contact the author.

Is there a size limit?

Files loaded from a USB drive can be up to 30 MB. There's no minimum for files in your cloud account.

Can I print just part of a document?

Yes — tap the document's thumbnail on the kiosk print options screen to preview it and select a page range. Only one continuous range is allowed; for separate ranges, save a copy of the document with the unwanted pages deleted and print the copy.

Accounts, funds, and refunds

Do I need a Student Body card?

No. Any registered student can print. An ID card just makes kiosk login faster than typing your credentials — get one at the Smart Shop (Foothill) or the Office of College Life (De Anza).

My new ID card won't log me in

Cards work immediately — no wait is needed. If login fails, try again in a minute, since brief network issues can interfere. If it keeps failing, take the card back to where it was issued so staff can check whether your data was encoded correctly.

Can I use my print balance elsewhere on campus?

No. ePRINTit funds only work at the campus ePRINTit printers — not for food, books, or parking — and the money is not stored on your ID card.

How do I get a refund when I leave FHDA?

Contact the Office of College Life at De Anza or the Smart Shop at Foothill after the second week of the following quarter.

Is there a minimum refund?

Yes — $3.00. The card you originally used to deposit must still be available, and the deposit can't be more than 12 months old; the payment processor can't credit older transactions. Cash deposits can't be returned as cash, but ePRINTit can credit your account.

The kiosk charged me but never printed

Call ePRINTit customer service at 1‑877‑494‑0443 with your username. They can reverse the transaction so you can print at another station.

Printing problems

Order flagged as corrupt
  1. Try submitting once more — it may have been a transfer glitch.
  2. If it still fails, print or save the file as a PDF on your own device and upload the PDF.
  3. Files carrying malware, or files whose extension doesn't match their real format, can't be processed.
Kiosk is locked or frozen

Check the information posted at the printer for whom to contact, or use another print station.

Out of paper or low toner

See the poster next to the printer for whom to contact.

Network is down

There are multiple ePRINTit stations on each campus — try your job at another one.

I need accessibility support

The ePRINTit web app is fully accessible and works with screen readers and contrast tools on your own device. Kiosks support a keyboard and a personal audio device in the left-hand audio jack. Library and lab staff can also assist on site, and ePRINTit's VPAT document is available from [email protected].

Money problems go to ePRINTit, not the campus help desk. Any financial issue — a double charge, a failed job that billed you, a refund — must be resolved by contacting ePRINTit directly with your username at [email protected] or 1‑877‑494‑0443.
