Accessibility
District Guidelines and Resources

Foothill-De Anza serves a community of students, faculty, and staff with a wide range of abilities, identities, and ways of engaging with the world. Accessible websites, documents, and digital tools open doors for every member of our community — to learning, to work, and to full participation in the life of the colleges. Building that kind of access is one of the most direct ways we put our commitment to equity into practice.

Accessibility Is Equity Work

About one in four adults in the United States lives with a disability. Some disabilities are visible; many aren't. Accessible websites, documents, and digital tools help students with disabilities engage fully in college life — meeting deadlines, taking part in class, and reaching the opportunities our colleges exist to provide. A well-tagged PDF, a captioned video, a clearly structured webpage: small details that add up to a meaningful difference.

Building digital content that works for everyone isn't an extra step on top of our equity work. It is our equity work. And the benefits extend beyond students with disabilities — clear headings, captioned video, plain language, and good color contrast make content easier to use for everyone, whether someone is reading on a phone, working in a noisy environment, or moving through a busy day.

Where We Are

Educational Technology Services is working to bring the District's sites and services into conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard required of public colleges under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The compliance deadline for the district is April 26, 2027.

The legal deadline matters, but it isn't the whole reason we're doing this. Compliance is a floor. The goal is content that genuinely works for the people who use it.
