Windows Setup and Help

The Rabbit printers are the district's Managed Print System (MPS) — shared Ricoh printers where you print to a single secure queue (SecurePrint), then walk to any Rabbit printer and release your job by swiping your campus ID card (or logging in at the panel). Your document only prints when you're standing at the machine. This guide covers setup and troubleshooting for Windows PCs.

Set up the Rabbit printer

Most district Windows computers get the Rabbit printer automatically through management. If yours doesn't have it:

  1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run box, type \\rabbitprint.ad.fhda.edu\SecurePrint and press Enter.
  2. When prompted, sign in with your district username and MyPortal password and check “Remember my credentials.” The printer and driver install automatically.
  3. When printing, choose SecurePrint on rabbitprint.ad.fhda.edu in the print dialog.
  4. Walk to any Rabbit printer, swipe your campus ID card, and release your job.

Just changed your MyPortal password?

Windows keeps a saved copy of your old password for printing, so printing breaks the day you change it — jobs sit in the queue saying "Stopped — Authentication Required" or simply never arrive at the printer. Update the saved password and everything resumes:

  1. Open Credential Manager — press Start, type "credential manager", and open it.
  2. Choose Windows Credentials and find the entry for rabbitprint.ad.fhda.edu.
  3. Click Edit and enter your new password (or Remove the entry entirely).
  4. Print again — if you removed the entry, sign in with your new password when prompted and check "Remember my credentials."

Troubleshooting

Job stuck at "Waiting", "Stopped", or asking to authenticate

Saved password is stale (usually after a password change). Follow the Credential Manager steps above.

Then restart the computer so the print spooler picks up the new credentials, and print again.

"Unable to start job", error printing, or the job vanishes

Remove the printer (Settings → Bluetooth & devices → Printers & scanners → select it → Remove) and re-add it using the setup steps — this refreshes the driver, which fixes most cases.

I swipe my card but my job isn't at the printer

Make sure the job went to SecurePrint on rabbitprint, not a local/departmental printer — check the printer name in the print dialog.

Jobs are held only temporarily; if you printed a while ago, print again and release promptly.

If your card has never worked at any Rabbit printer, it may not be linked — call the Help Desk.

The printer isn't in my printer list at all

District PCs normally receive it automatically — if it's missing, add it manually with the setup steps above.

If the address won't open ("Windows cannot access…"), your PC may not be on the district network/domain — connect on campus (wired if possible) and try again, or call the Help Desk.

Everyone in the office suddenly can't print

Reboot the printer (power off, wait 30 seconds, power on). If it persists, call the Help Desk — the print server may need attention. Include your building and room number.
