Spring 2012 Notes
Email - Calendar Conversion
College and district Technology Task Force committees have designated moving to a unified communications suite as a critical technology project for the district. Accordingly, last calendar year, ETS began to study methods to integrate email and calendar functions and resolve outstanding functionality issues with our current systems, including the lack of integration between email and calendars, lack of mobile device support, and increasing system downtime. After a full review of options ranging from modifying our current systems to converting to a new system, senior leaders made the decision to convert to Microsoft's Exchange product. Microsoft's Exchange, commonly referred to as Outlook by some, is a unified communications suite that provides Web and client based access to email and calendaring functionality and can easily integrate with other functions such as voice mail and faxing. Our plan is to convert everyone to the Web version of Exchange by July 1st. You can find details about this conversion project at this Website. We will continue to post new information about the conversion project here on a periodic basis. If you have any questions about the conversion process or the Microsoft?s Exchange product, you can contact Chien Shih (shihchien@fhda.edu).
IT Project Prioritization Process
In Fall 2011 Educational Technology Services (ETS) will implement a
process to determine priorities of projects requested by users. A new
Website called IT Technology
Projects explains the process and provides forms for users to use
in requesting new projects. On this site, you can also review the status of projects that ETS is currently working on.
