Student College Email Accounts

This article is for current De Anza and Foothill students. It explains how to request an official college email address, what to know before relying on it, and how to keep your registration email address current. The process is the same at both colleges — only the address you receive differs: @student.deanza.edu for De Anza students and @student.foothill.edu for Foothill students.

Request your account

  1. Log in to MyPortal.
  2. Look for the Student College Email card.
  3. Click the card and follow the instructions to submit your request online.
  4. Your address will include your last name and legal first name, like [email protected] or [email protected].
  5. Once you submit the request, a confirmation goes to your primary email address (the personal account you used to apply or register), with instructions for accessing the new account through Office 365 or MyPortal.

Use a preferred first name instead

If you'd rather not use your legal first name in the address, add a preferred name to your records first:

  1. Log in to MyPortal and click the Student Registration card.
  2. Look under My Profile and select Add My Preferred First Name for your college.
  3. Your address will then look like [email protected] (or @student.foothill.edu).

Before you rely on it

  • College email accounts are only for registered students. District employees aren't eligible because they have employee accounts.
  • Once you stop taking classes, the account is deactivated after one quarter unless you resume taking classes.
  • Foothill applicants: an email address shared with another Foothill applicant will prevent the creation of your student MyPortal account, so use an address that's yours alone.

Don't make your college email your primary address for registration. The account closes after you leave the college, so anything sent there — admission notices, enrollment confirmations, waitlist openings, fee reminders — would be lost to you. Keep a personal address as your primary registration contact.

Get help

If you've followed these steps and still have trouble, use your college's student support resources: De Anza students can find assistance options on the De Anza Student Tech Support webpage [insert URL], and Foothill students can contact Admissions and Records at (650) 949-7325 or [email protected].
