Zoom Video Conferencing

This article is for FHDA faculty and staff. Zoom is the district's video conferencing tool for one-on-one meetings, small group and committee meetings, and large meetings, with phone conferencing, screen sharing, and chat. It works on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS. This page covers getting your account; see also Scheduling Zoom Meetings from Outlook and Improving your Zoom Connection.

Who gets an account

  • All FHDA employees are eligible for a Zoom account that allows scheduling and hosting meetings.
  • Participants don't need an account — anyone you invite can join your meeting from the link.
  • Zoom is provided at no cost to the district through a California Community College Chancellor's Office grant, administered by TechConnect at Palomar College.

Sign up or sign in

  1. Log in to MyPortal.
  2. Under your staff applications, select the Zoom tile. This creates your FHDA Zoom account the first time and signs you in on every visit after that.

New accounts start as "basic" and are upgraded within 72 hours. Your account works immediately, but basic accounts have Zoom's free-tier limits (such as time limits on group meetings) until the license is applied. If you'll be hosting a long or large meeting, set up your account a few days ahead rather than the morning of.

Use it appropriately

As with all district-provided technology, your FHDA Zoom account is for work-related meetings and should follow district guidelines for security and accessibility. See the tips for preventing uninvited guests from disrupting your meetings ("Zoom bombing") at [insert link to Zoom bombing prevention tips].
