Accessibility Statement

The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is committed to providing digital content that is accessible to everyone in our community, including people with disabilities. This statement describes our commitment, the standard we follow, where we are in the work, and how to reach us if you encounter a barrier or need content in a different format.

Our Commitment

Foothill-De Anza Community College District is committed to ensuring that students, employees, and members of the public can access the information and services we provide online. We treat digital accessibility as part of our broader equity work: removing barriers so that disabled members of our community can participate fully in the life of the colleges, on the same terms as everyone else.

This commitment applies to our public-facing websites, internal portals, documents, video and audio content, mobile applications, and the digital tools we provide to support teaching, learning, and college operations.

Standards We Follow

ETS works to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard required of public colleges and universities under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. WCAG 2.1 AA covers a wide range of practices, including text alternatives for images, captions for video, sufficient color contrast, keyboard navigation, and clear page structure for assistive technologies.

You can read more about the standard and the rule on the About ADA Title II page.

Current Status

This work is in progress. Our sites, templates, and existing content are being reviewed and remediated on an ongoing basis. We have completed accessibility audits of our highest-traffic pages and are systematically addressing the issues identified. Some pages, documents, and embedded third-party tools may not yet fully meet WCAG 2.1 AA.

Areas where we know work remains include:

  • Older PDF documents and other electronic documents posted in previous years
  • Some legacy pages built before our current accessibility practices were in place
  • Embedded content from third-party services that we do not directly control
  • Older video content that may have inaccurate auto-generated captions

We are addressing these as part of our remediation plan, and we welcome reports about specific items that are blocking your access — those reports help us prioritize.

How To Request Help Or Report A Barrier

If you cannot access content on a site we maintain, or if you would like a document provided in a different format (such as accessible Word, large print, or another alternative format), please use the form below or contact [email protected].

If you are Sending an Email
Please provide the following:
  • The web address (URL) of the page you're having trouble with, or the name of the document
  • What you were trying to do
  • What happened, or what you couldn't reach
  • The browser, device, or assistive technology you were using, if you know
  • How you'd like us to follow up with you

You don't need to use technical language — "I tried to download the registration form and my screen reader couldn't read it" is exactly the kind of report we can act on.

Disability Support For Students

If you are a student looking for academic accommodations, course materials in alternative formats, or other disability-related support, the place to start is your college's Disability Resource Center:

The Disability Resource Centers handle accommodations, alternate format requests for course materials, assistive technology support, and access services. ETS supports the technology infrastructure behind those services, but the centers are your direct line for individual accommodations.

Disability Support For Employees

Employees seeking workplace accommodations should contact District Human Resources. Workplace accommodation requests follow a separate process from the digital accessibility feedback described above.

How We Test

Our accessibility work combines several methods:

  • Automated scanning tools to flag common issues across our sites
  • Manual testing with keyboard-only navigation
  • Testing with screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver) and browser zoom
  • Color contrast checks for templates, components, and brand colors
  • Review of new content and templates against WCAG 2.1 AA before publication

Automated tools find a portion of accessibility issues but not all of them, so manual testing and feedback from real users remain essential parts of the process.

Third-party Content

Some of our sites include or link to content provided by third parties — for example, embedded videos, mapping services, payment systems, or vendor-hosted applications. We do our best to choose vendors with strong accessibility practices, and we raise concerns with vendors when we identify issues. However, we cannot directly modify content we do not control. If a third-party tool we provide is creating a barrier for you, please report it using the contact information above so we can either work with the vendor or arrange an alternative way for you to access the information or service.

Feedback And Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. Standards evolve, technologies change, and our content grows every day. We welcome feedback from anyone — students, employees, community members — about what's working, what isn't, and what we should prioritize next.
