WLAN Expansion Project – De Anza Campus
Overview
The wireless local area network, known as WLAN or wi-fi, is being expanded to cover the vast majority of interior and exterior space typically utilized by students, faculty, and staff. The project is divided into two primary phases:
• Pre-bid Expansion – This phase of the project will install additional wireless access points (WAPs)
in areas that generally only require WAP installation and extension of low voltage wiring. Most
of these tasks can be performed by ETS and Facilities staff with assistance from contractors.
• Post-Bid Expansion – This phase of the project will install additional WAPs in all other areas
where WLAN coverage is desired. Generally, installation of WAPs in these areas will require
some level of construction. Subsequently, architectural planning will be required to address the
multiple facets of this phase including trenching, installation of signal pathways, installation of
new of electrical circuits, and seismic considerations. Due to the scope and complexity of this
phase of the project, standard district procurement procedures regarding the development of
requests for proposals (RFPs) and subsequent bidding must be observed.
