Platform Services

The Platform Services group oversees the intake, evaluation, and coordinated delivery of technology projects across the district. Larger technology initiatives at the district are handled through a structured request, review, and prioritization process managed by Educational Technology Services (ETS).

The Platform Services group is responsible for guiding technology initiatives from initial idea to completed solution. It provides a single, structured path for Colleges and Central Services to request new systems and significant enhancements, ensures each request is properly reviewed, approved, and prioritized, and then coordinates the people, schedules, and resources needed to deliver the work. By managing this pipeline, the group brings transparency and accountability to technology planning — giving stakeholders clear visibility into where their requests stand, while helping the department balance competing priorities and allocate its limited resources to the projects of greatest value to the district.

To submit a project request, use the ETS Project Request tile in MyPortal.

About the IT Project Request System

An online workflow used by district supervisors and managers to submit new IT project requests to ETS and to track each request through its approval and prioritization process.

The IT Project Request system is the district's formal channel for proposing and tracking larger technology projects. It gives Colleges and Central Services a structured, automated way to submit new project requests to Educational Technology Services (ETS) and to follow the status of those requests from submission through approval and assignment.

The system is accessed through a dedicated tile in MyPortal, available to FHDA employees district-wide who hold the role of supervisor or above. A user completes a project request form, which is then routed automatically through a defined approval chain: the submitter's direct supervisor, the department dean or director, an ETS feasibility review, and finally the ETS Vice Chancellor of Technology as the final approver. Email notifications keep submitters and approvers informed as the request advances. Approved projects are then ranked, prioritized, and assigned to ETS staff.

Behind the scenes, the workflow and tracking are powered by Jira Cloud, Atlassian's work-tracking platform. Users may be prompted to sign in to Jira with their district email, CWID, and MyPortal password the first time they use it. The system also offers status views and graphical summaries — such as charts showing the state of submitted requests — so requesters and managers can see where projects stand.

It is important to note the scope of this system: it is intended for new IT projects and significant enhancements. Routine fixes or minor changes to systems already in production are handled through the district's separate KACE help-desk ticketing system rather than the project request workflow.

For the district, this system brings transparency and accountability to technology planning. It replaces informal requests with a documented pipeline, ensures the right managers review and endorse each proposal, and gives ETS a consistent basis for prioritizing its project workload.
