Data Center Operations

The Data Center Operations function of the ETS/Systems & Operations department provides the following support services: Computing server operation and monitoring, production control job setup, scheduling, and execution, report printing and handling, and data backup tape handling.

Our hours of operations are Monday 7:00am through Saturday 7:00am. We are not staffed from 7:00am Saturday through 7:00am Monday nor on any District holiday.

Computer server operation and monitoring consists of starting (rebooting) or stopping (shutting down) computing servers using predefined instructions provided by the function that has an official support role for each server. When problems are encountered or observed, we will initiate basic problem diagnostic actions as instructed and escalate to a predefined support function as required.

We currently provide centralized printing and distribution management of reports on Greenbar paper for Accounting and Human Resources and specialized forms such as the time cards.

We provide a production control service to facilitate the scheduling and execution of job requests for the District Student Information System (SIS). On demand SIS job processing is submitted through the use of the Managed Access Queue (MAQ) service. Each SIS user who needs jobs processed may obtain a MAQ account by requesting the account through the "ETS Call Center". The user needs to know the job names they will be requesting and provides that information to the Call Center when they request their account.

The MAQ user creates a request to have a specific job processed. From this request, MAQ will submit a job into the job queues for processing either immediately or later for batch processing. Each MAQ job request will have a unique ID which can be used to reference the request in order to perform the following functions: Request- request a job to be submitted and processed; Copy- use an existing job request as the basis to create a new request; Look- look at a particular job request; Delete- delete a particular job request, in case of a mistake, for example. After a job has been processed, the requester will receive an email message advising them if the job processed normally or if it encountered problems (aborted).
