1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING - WAS THERE
A DESIRE TO INCLUDE GUIDING PRINCIPLE ON TECHNOLOGY TO SUPPORT COMMUNICATION
· Will stand
approved as posted
· Will
discuss adding to the guiding principles when the 4th agenda topic
discussion begins
2. GENERAL NEWS -
· We are having difficulty with our
registration system
The problem started early yesterday morning
and persisted until about 1:00 PM
We were in contact with Touchnet, the vendor who provides the application
that runs our registration system
Yesterday morning they suggested
that we put some patches into place
Before we had a chance to put any of the patches in place, the system started
to work properly
Because Touchnet can connect to our server, about 6:00 this morning they rebooted
the system, without our knowledge, and it has been running sluggish ever since
We have moved a new server into place in the
hopes of resolving the problem
Kristin ask if there was some way of sending out a notification when the
system is having problems
Willie replied that both
colleges handle it differently, but could check into it
De Anza did send out an
e-mail, since they have an e-mail list of all their students
3. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS - NONE
· The Hardware & Software Standards committee has
not met since their November 2nd meeting
The
committee is scheduled to meet December 7th
Will be discussing the results of
a study on spyware detection software and consideration of installing such a
solution on district PC's
4. TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC
PLAN ? WHAT ARE OUR TECHNOLOGY ASSUMPTIONS (REVIEW ASSUMPTIONS FROM LAST YEAR)?
WHAT ARE OUR ASSUMPTIONS ABOUT THE DISTRICT? ABOUT OUR STUDENTS? ABOUT OUR
FUNDING?
· There was a
general consensus to include a guiding principle on technology to support
communication
After
discussion it was decided that the following bullet will be added to the newly
revised guiding principles of 11/17/04:
Technology
must enable and facilitate rapid and efficient communication and collaboration
· Committee
members from each campus discussed, off line, last years list of assumptions
about the future related to students and technology itself
After
independent discussions about the assumptions, each group reviewed their
results
Willie
and Pam will combine the results from each group and forward them onto
committee members for review, before the next meeting
· After the
holidays the committee will discuss their assumptions about: the culture that
we live in; our culture in the district; what technology will be like for the
next five years; what our faculty will expect in regards to technology; what
our staff will expect
The
goal is to complete this phase by February
From
this point, the committee will try to take a look at what the goals and strategies
are, for the district, in regards to technology
5. OTHER ITEMS FROM THE
COMMITTEE
· Willie
raised the question of canceling the January 5th meeting due to the
fact that it falls during the first week of classes
The
general consensus was to cancel the meeting on the 5th and meet
again, at the next regularly scheduled meeting, on January 19th
Adjourned: 2:06 pm
Next Meeting: Wednesday, January 5, 12:30 - 2:00 PM
