COMMITTEE

1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING

· Will stand approved as posted with a correction to the spelling of David Gilletts last name, in the context of the minutes

2. INTRODUCTIONS

3. GENERAL NEWS – ETS TECH USE SURVEY IS OUT, DUE BACK BY FRIDAY

· The Tech Use Survey comes off line Friday, November 12th

This is the 4th annual survey

The results of a prior years survey can be found at http://ets.fhda.edu/TechSurvey
The results of this year's survey will be summarized in the first or second issue of the winter quarter's NewsBytes

Have had a pretty good response rate already – as of Monday morning there has been 246 responses

Shooting for 350 responses to this years survey
Survey goes out to all employees including part-time faculty (do not have a high response rate from this group)
There are about 1200 full-time permanent staff

· Will continue to send out NewsBytes

This academic year, issues will send out twice a quarter

4. SUBCOMMITTEE REPORTS – STANDARDS COMMITTEE; SPAM FILTER SUBCOMMITTEE (FROM TOM ROZA)

· Hardware & Software Standards Committee – Willie Pritchard

Met November 2nd

The committee did a few small tweaks to the peripheral standards

New models have come out for a couple of the printers
Adopted a new portable projector for the standards

Before the December 7th meeting, the committee will research and come up with some solution for detecting and removing spyware

· Defining Spam Subcommittee – Tom Roza

The following table from Tom Roza, gives an update on the hits to the spam/virus firewall (YTD as of October 31st )

5. PRESENTATION ABOUT FHDA TECHNOLOGY ENVIRONMENT; CURRENT ISSUES AND GOALS FOR THE YEAR

· Willie guided the committee through a PowerPoint presentation explaining the technology environment at FHDA

The purpose of the presentation is to better help explain the technology challenges that ETS faces within the district
The presentation was broken into three layers

The physical technology environment
The network technology environment
The software environment
