ATTENDEES:
Tom Dolen, Linda Elvin, Scott Heffner, Willie Pritchard, Jefferson Shirley
GUESTS: Sharon Luciw, Lisa Hocevar
Convened: 1:35 pm
1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE LAST
MEETING
· Will stand approved as posted
2. GENERAL NEWS –WIRELESS PROJECT
UPDATE; ID MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BID PROGRESS; NEW VERSION OF MEETING MAKER COMING
ON FRIDAY, MAY 12; MAUI REPLACEMENT
3. SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENTS –
· DA classified senate had a lot more questions than the Tech
Services FAQ's touched on
There was a shortened version that was in NewsBytes
The longer version will be posted on the ETAC web site under Tech Documents
(http://ets.fhda.edu/techdocs)
· The goal is to have all SLA's go through the CAC before the
end of this quarter
Need to have all feedback back to ETAC by the second meeting in May
Will ask at that meeting for sign off on the approved final versions
of the different SLA's, so they can be taken to the CAC for a first read
through at their first June meeting
a) Status of constituency review of the Technical
Services SLA, the Systems and Operations SLA, and the Call Center SLA. Where
are you in the review process?
· DA classified senate had no comment for the Systems &
Operations SLA
· DA academic senate met for the first time in about a month
The SLA's were not on the agenda
Tom will encourage Olivia to invite Willie to attend a meeting
Need to figure out, as a group, which of the SLA's they need to look at
closely
· Willie, Gerry, John Vandercook & Tom Roza, went on
4/11/06, to the FH admin council and discussed their SLA's
b) Introduce new SLA's for Networks and Telecom
Dept. and the Information Systems Dept.
· Lisa Hocevar reviewed the Networks & Telecom SLA
The target audience for this SLA has a fairly broad base
Might want to distribute this SLA a little more widely
· Willie reviewed the Information Systems SLA
Fairly specialized SLA and may not need to be generally distributed;
targeted mostly at managers/administrators
4. OTHER ITEMS FROM THE COMMITTEE
· Portal Update
All employees should have access to the portal before the end of spring
quarter (late May/early June)
Testing has gone extremely well
After moving to the new version of MM, it will be accessible inside the
portal using the single sign on
Have updated and improved the class roster list
Starting this quarter, when faculty down load class rosters, they will
be able to see withdrawals and dropped students also
The portal development team is trying to devise a means for faculty who
teach on both campuses to be able to see their class rosters from both
campuses
· Tom Dolen asked about the release of Boot Camp by Apple
Apple has met with both of the Tech Services groups to help them get a
better understanding of what it is
There is another virtualization tool, like Virtual PC, called Parallels,
which runs inside the Mac OS X
Both Tech groups have installed both ways of running Windows on some
Intel Macs that they have
Both groups are impressed with the software
The Boot Camp version of windows for the Mac appears to run perceptually
faster than Windows on the Dell
Parallels may be useful for those Mac users that have to run one application
under widows
Wayne Chenoweth thinks that there might be some accessibility issues
May be good to have a single machine that is bootable either way in the
Smart Classrooms
Could be run on a Mac Mini, which would reduce hardware costs
Will be a topic for discussion at the next HW & SW Standards meeting
on May 2nd
