GUESTS: Sharon Luciw
Convened: 1:40 pm
1. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES OF THE LAST
MEETING
· Will stand approved as posted
2. GENERAL NEWS – STATUS UPDATE ON
THE PORTAL TEST; WIRELESS PROJECT UPDATE; ID MANAGEMENT SYSTEM BID PROGRESS;
NEW VERSION OF MEETING MAKER COMING DURING SPRING QUARTER
· Status update on the Portal
3. MEETING TIME (12:30 - 2:00 OR 1:30 – 3:00?)
· An e-mail message will be send to all members to vote for
one time or another
4. SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENTS –
· Sharon Luciw has developed an FAQ related to the Tech Services
SLA, which will appear in the next issue of NewsBytes, due out Monday, March
27th
The version that will appear in NewsBytes is a condensed version with the
more technical aspects removed
The full document can be distributed through ETAC when it is completed
Sharon will accept any additional questions through today
The FAQ in its entirety will be posted on the ETS website
· ETAC will be giving its approval to the SLA's and then they
will go to Chancellor's Advisory Council
· The SLA's reflect the current services that ETS provides
They are mostly to clarify rather than having each side make assumptions
about what services ETS will provide and under what conditions
· Jeanine would like to see a matrix that summarizes the coverage
they ETS will supply to the different types of labs
· Most community colleges may not have SLA's but in four-year
institutions they are very common
a) Status of constituency review of the Technical
Services SLA. Where are you in the review process?
· The DA Tech Taskforce should have a response by the next
meeting
· Willie has a meeting April 11th, with the
FH Admin Council to discuss the SLA's
· Was on this weeks agenda for the DA academic senate, but they
didn't get around to discussing it
Tom will suggest to Olivia that this would be a good time to invite Sharon
& Willie to attend a meeting
b) Status of constituency review of the Systems
and Operations SLA. Where are you in the review process?
· Linda would like some help in how she can relate this SLA
to the classified senate
This SLA may not be directly relevant to classified staff, but more relevant
to managers and marginally to faculty
This SLA would affect classified staff if their server isn't resident in
the data center
Would be best for ETS to speak to these individuals independently as
opposed to talking it through the classified senate
· Tom Dolen will give a copy, of the SLA, to Judy Mowery for
review
Tom would like to know which operating systems are supported by this SLA
ETS supports Linux (our preferred operating system), Windows, & OpenVMS
– this information will be added to the current draft version of
the SLA
c) Introduce new SLA for Call Center
· This SLA outlines the hours of support
· Discusses the types of requests that will be facilitated
by the Call Center; and how each of those requests are tracked
· The Call Center is the first point of contact into ETS for
help
5. OTHER ITEMS FROM THE COMMITTEE
· Most of the new Macintosh computers come with a built in
wireless card
Not an option to buy it without the wireless card
The user of the machine can turn on wireless access for others and turn
themselves into a wireless access point
It is like adding an unlimited hub on a network
Causes a security issue because the machine appears as a rogue wireless
access point to ETS
This means that anyone can connect to our network and we don't know who
they are unless proper security precautions are taken
When we get our wireless management system in place we will be able to
detect, locate, and isolate such functionality, until then this is a potential
problem
· MailReader, the unsupported web based e-mail service will
be going away April 1st
It will be replaced by WebMail (http://webmail.fhda.edu), which is currently
running in parallel to MailReader
Currently, WebMail does not retain what you have sent because it is not
configured to do so
· The new Intel Macintosh will not run MAUI because it will
not have Classic 9 OS running on it – currently have about 400 MAUI
users
The intent is not to make MAUI compatible with the new Intel Macs but instead
to speed up the process for finding a replacement that is web based and
can run on both Mac and Windows
Have preliminary quotes from vendors to determine if it is necessary
to go out for bid – still undetermined
· The next ETAC meeting will be April 19th because
our next regularly scheduled meeting would occur during spring break
6. ADJOURNMENT
· Adjourned: 2:39 pm
Next Meeting: Wednesday, April 19, 2006, 12:30 – 2:00 via teleconferencing
