Virus Protection FAQ: How do I set up a regularly scheduled virus definitions update on my Macintosh?

 

Instructions:

1. Go to the Apple in the top left corner of your screen down to Control Panels and choose Norton Anti Virus.

2. At the Norton Anti Virus window click on the Live Update icon on the right side of the window.

3. At the Live Update window click on the icon to the left of Schedule Future Updates.

4. At the Live Update Scheduler window click on the New button on the right side of the window, to schedule a new event.

5. You will be prompted to type a name for the event. Type update in the blank name field.

6. At the Live Update window confirm that the Event pull-down menu has update selected (the name you chose for the event).

7. The next pull-down menu below is Event Type. Choose Update All from the pull-down menu.

8. The next pull-down menu below is How Often. Choose Weekly from the pull-down menu.

9. The next field below is Start Time. The first field from the left should have the current date selected. Verify that day of the week is a day you are normally at work with your computer turned on. Choose a random time you are normally at work with your computer turned on (ex: 9:29AM).

10. Click on the Done button. If you receive a prompt stating: You have scheduled an event in the past. Are you sure you want to do this? click on the Yes button.

11. You have now scheduled your computer to automatically connect to Symantec once each week and download all updates to ensure maximum virus protection. To quit Norton Anti Virus go to the File menu and choose Quit to exit the program.
